What is Reflection of light ?
The bouncing back of light is known as reflection of light.
What happens during the phenomenon of reflection?
The ray of light approaches a surface and the light ray bounces back.
The light ray which approaches the smooth surface is called the incident ray of light and the ray of light which bounces back is called the reflected ray.
Normal is an imaginary line perpendicular to the surface reflecting the light.
What are the types of reflection?
There are two types of reflection namely regular reflection and irregular reflection.
⭐Regular Reflection
When a ray of light gets reflected in a definite direction and are parallel to each other it is called as regular reflection. This type of reflection occurs only if the light get reflected from a smooth or polished surface.
⭐Irregular reflection
When a ray of light gets reflected in a indefinite manner and are not parallel to each other it is called as irregular reflection. This types of reflection occurs only if the light gets reflected from a irregular or unpolished surface.
What is Refraction of light ?
The Property of light to change its direction when it passes through two different media (plural of medium) is called as refraction.
What happens during the phenomenon of refraction?
⭐When the light ray passes from a rarer to a denser medium the light ray bends towards the normal.
⭐When the light ray passes from denser to a rarer medium the light ray bends away from the normal.
⭐When the light ray passes from denser medium to rarer medium such that the light ray bends and create an angle of 90° with the normal it is known as the critical angle.
